To ensure your safety and comfort, we use a state-of-the-art Virtual Simulator in the classroom to acquaint you with the operations and shooting of a firearm before introducing you to the live-fire range. Sign up now and let us help you apply for your TN State Handgun Carry Permit.

Please note that TN Constitutional Carry does not provide reciprocity with any other state, and it is not recognized for non-TN residents. The TN Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit, on the other hand, allows open or concealed carry and entitles the permit holder to carry any legally owned handgun. It also offers reciprocity in 38 other states.
To obtain the TN Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit, you must take a State Certified 8-hour class, pass a 50-question written exam with a minimum score of 70%, and pass a 50-round shooting qualification with a score of 70%. Before class, you must obtain a Confirmation Number from the State at https://dl.safety.tn.gov/handgun/.

Items Training Participants Are Responsible For:
You will need a reliable handgun (rentals available if needed), 50 rounds of practice ammunition (available for purchase if needed), and eye and ear protection. Before class, we encourage you to register with the state at https://dl.safety.tn.gov/ and choose the "Handgun Carry Permit" tab to obtain an application number.

If you fail either the written exam or the shooting course, you will need to retake the entire class per TN state requirements.

Once you have completed the Handgun Safety Course and obtained the necessary documentation, you must visit a full-service Driver's License Station to apply for the permit. The application process includes providing proof of United States citizenship or lawful permanent residency, payment of fees, taking a photograph and providing an electronic signature, and registering your fingerprints.

Please allow the State at least thirty (30) days before you check on the status of your application. Do not carry a handgun on your person until your permit arrives in the mail. It is your responsibility to keep your address current with the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, and you are responsible for renewing your permit before it expires.
Remember that a permit to carry a handgun is not a license to use deadly force, and it comes with significant legal and financial responsibilities. If you have a current real ID, you may complete the application process online without visiting a Driver's License Station.
